Star Alliance welcomes Air Canada Fleet acquisition

Star Alliance member Air Canada today has announced that it has reached agreements in principle to purchase 45 Bombardier and 45 Embraer aircraft as part of its previously announced North American fleet strategy. This announcement represents the first decision made by a Star Alliance member carrier being part of an extensive market evaluation and selection process for the future 70-110 seater airplanes.

Star Alliance CEO, Jaan Albrecht, comments: “Today’s announcement underlines the success of this Star Alliance initiative. The industry has accepted the idea to work together with an alliance and to make use of the wealth of the collective expertise of our member carriers. While our members are maintaining their full flexibility with respect to their individual orders, the agreed joint Star standard will positively impact on the operation and flexibility of our fleets in the future. Our members share a common view to reduce costs through standardization and leveraging joint purchasing power. This campaign is just the beginning of our concerted efforts in this area.”
