STAR ALLIANCE MEMBER CARRIERS MOVE TOGETHER IN SEOUL

Move under one Roof project completed at Incheon International Airport

Star Alliance member carriers today celebrated their move to the western part of the main terminal at Seoul’s Incheon International Airport. Following Star Alliance’s Move under one Roof (MuoR) concept, member carriers operating to Incheon completed relocation on June 10. In addition to Asiana this includes Air Canada, Air China, ANA, Lufthansa, Shanghai Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Thai International Airways, United and Turkish Airlines. In total, they account for 1,500 weekly departures from Incheon.

MuoR means that ticketing and check-in counters, common use lounges, offices, transfer desks and baggage facilities are located together in the same terminal with clear signage for customer convenience. “Such collocation of facilities works towards giving passengers a hassle-free travel experience,” said Jaan Albrecht, CEO, Star Alliance, who attended the opening ceremony. He pointed out smooth travel requires a great deal of effort on the ground. “There is no point flying around the world in fast planes when you land at slow airports. With MuoR, customers can make faster connections from one member carrier to another at Incheon.” After Beijing and Shanghai, Seoul is this year’s third Asian hub where the MuoR strategy was implemented.

The move coincides with the opening of two new Asiana lounges that together offer 697 seats and a floor space of nearly 4,000 square metres. The larger lounge (2,453 sq. m.) is located in the passenger terminal, the other one is in the concourse building near the boarding gates. Both are open to member carriers’ First Class and Business Class passengers as well as Star Alliance Gold members.

Services in the lounges include business centres, showers, hot meal services and a home theatre room among other amenities.

Planning for MuoR at Incheon began in 2006 and was carried out by a team of Star Alliance and member carrier experts led by home carrier Asiana. It ran parallel to an overall expansion of the airport, including the main terminal. Presently, MuoR projects have been carried out at Tokyo Narita, Bangkok, London Heathrow, Beijing and Shanghai and have increased efficiencies for participating carriers and their customers.
