ANA and Singapore Airlines to join Star Alliance Round-The-World fares
The newest member of Star Alliance, Japan's All Nippon Airways - ANA, is set to join the complete range of the airline partnership's Round-The-World (RTW) fare offers, together with Singapore Airlines, which today announced that it intends to become a member of the alliance next spring.
Effective October 31, 1999, the RTW fares will also include travel on ANA's and Singapore Airlines' extensive route networks, bringing the total number of available destinations to approximately 800 in more than 112 countries.
The basic Star Alliance RTW ticket is available in three fare categories. The price of the ticket is determined by class of travel - First, Business or Economy Class - and the distance traveled (from 29,000 up to a maximum of 39,000 miles). The minimum number of stopovers required is three, while the maximum stopovers allowed are fifteen.
In addition, the Star Alliance network recently announced a new and very competitively priced RTW economy class-only ticket which covers a distance of a maximum 26,000 miles. It is already available for travel originating in some Star Alliance markets. Generally, tickets must be purchased seven days prior to departure. The journey must have a minimum of three stopovers and a maximum of five stopovers.
There are other rules which apply to both these Star Alliance RTW fares. The itinerary has to include one Transatlantic as well as one Transpacific crossing. A minimum stay of 10 days must generally be observed and return travel from the last international stopover point must commence no later than twelve months after departure. The journey must end in the same country as it began.
Members of Star Alliance frequent flyer programs will earn mileage on their RTW flights.
