Q. Can the Star Alliance Round the World Mileage Calculator (RTW MC) directly book my selected routing so that I will have confirmed reservations?
A. This is not possible as the tool is solely a mileage calculator to assist you in planning your trip.
Q. Can I assume that there will be no further changes when the tool indicates that I have selected a complete and valid itinerary?
A. Such an indication only confirms that all worldwide applicable Star Alliance Round the World rules have been checked. However, at this stage, additional, existing regional rules are not programmed in. The preferred travel agent to whom you take your printout will advise you if any changes are necessary. Moreover, the reservation of a flight is subject to availability. Should the applicable booking class no longer be available, a change of day and/or departure time might be unavoidable.
Q. Is the fare level displayed at the end of the process the final price I have to pay for my Star Alliance Round the World trip?
A. Applicable fees and taxes which differ from country to country are not included and will be added to the fare when the reservation is made.
Q. What happens to the mileage calculation if I decide to have a surface sector in-between?
A. Surface sectors are allowed if the other rules (e.g. global direction, etc.) are followed. The mileage for the surface sector will, however, be counted and costs caused by a surface transportation have to be borne by the passenger.
Q. Are all flight numbers with a Star Alliance member airline's designator in front available for Round the World travel?
A. Most of them are, however, some are used as marketing flight numbers on regional operating carriers, which are not participating in the RTW Fare and, therefore, excluded from application.
Q. Is it sufficient if I download the RTW MC once only?
A. The RTW MC is subject to changes without prior notice. As flight numbers excluded from application, ticketed point mileages and fare level tend to be changed frequently and rules occasionally, it is recommended that an update be downloaded from the www.staralliance.com website at least once a month. The update will automatically override the outdated version on your computer.
Q. Can I save the selected itinerary and continue my trip planning at a later stage?
A. Yes, you are welcome to do so. In the left column of the RTW MC front page you will find a button that enables you to save the routing on your PC.
Q. What if my preferred airline is not displayed in the drop-down menu for selecting the carrier to which to send my RTW itinerary?
A. Either your preferred airline is not an operating carrier in your itinerary or it is not offering the Email response service. Therefore, please select one of the airlines displayed or print out your itinerary and take it to your airline or travel agent. This does, however, not impact on your Frequent Flyer Programme benefits.
Q. What do I do if I have further questions on the RTW Fare itself?
A. Please refer to the Round the World Fare section.
