Star Alliance Round the World Fare

The Round the World Fares (RTW)

  • Star Alliance Round the World Fares apply for round the world travel from and to countries which are served by the participating member airlines of Star Alliance: Air Canada, Air China, Air New Zealand, All Nippon Airlines, Asiana, Austrian, bmi, EGYPTAIR, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, SAS (incl. Air Botnia), Shanghai Airlines, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, TAP Air Portugal, Thai Airways, Turkish Airlines, United, US Airways, Spanair, Swiss, Adria Airways, Blue 1 and Croatia Airlines.
  • In general all Star Alliance operating and code-shared flight numbers are permitted. However exceptions apply as the member airlines have the right to exclude single flights from the RTW fares
  • The member airlines can limit the number of passengers carried on any given flight at RTW fare. Also, the fare will not necessarily be available on all flights.
  • The applicable fare is determined by the total number of miles of your planned trip: up to 29.000, 34.000 or 39.000 miles for the Normal RTW Fare and up to 26.000 miles for the Special Economy Round the World Fare plus applicable fees, taxes and surcharges
  • Round The World Fares are available in First, Business and Economy Class.
  • On sectors where First or Business Class is not offered or available at the time of booking, passengers will be accommodated in the next lower class. No refund will apply.
    Exception: On sectors within/between USA and Canada where Business Class is not offered, passengers will be accommodated in First Class subject to availability of seats at the time of booking. In case First Class seats are not offered or not available, no refund will apply
  • The following surcharges do apply and are NOT included in the fare calculated by the Round the World Mileage Calculator on www.staralliance.com

    Air Canada Business class on Boeing777: surcharge USD 250. No surcharge is applied for passengers with a First Class Round the World ticket. Air Canada Business passengers may travel in Economy Class without surcharge, but no refund will be paid. Children pay the full Business Class surcharge on Boeing777

    SAS Economy Extra Class is available for passengers paying Economy Class Round the World fares at a surcharge of USD 500. No surcharge applies for passengers with a First or Business Class Round the World ticket. Children pay the full Economy extra surcharge

    Air New Zealand’s Pacific Premium Economy Class is available for passengers with an Economy Class Round the World ticket: The surcharge amounts between USD 125 and USD 500 depending on sector and booking class. No surcharge applies for passengers with a Business or First Class Round the World Ticket. Children and infant discount applies.

    Thai Royal Silk and Thai Premium Economy surcharge on non-stop Bangkok – New York and Bangkok – Los Angeles Transpacific flights:
    Passengers who wish to change from Business class to Royal Silk Class pay a surcharge of USD 500 (adults), USD 375 (children) and USD 50 (infants).

    Passengers who wish to change from Economy Class to Premium Economy Class pay a surcharge of USD 300 (adults), USD 225 (children) and USD 30 (infants).
    The surcharges do not apply for passengers with First Class Tickets. Business Class passengers may travel on Premium Economy Class without surcharge. No refund will apply

    SQ Business Plus/SQ Economy Plus surcharges on A345 non-stop transpacific services:
    Singapore – Los Angeles: A surcharge of USD 500 (adults), USD 375 (children) and USD 50 (infants) will be added to the business class fare. A surcharge of USD 100 (adults), USD 75 (children) and USD 10 (infants) are added to the Economy fare.
    Singapore – London: A surcharge of USD 700 (adults), USD 525 (children) and USD 70 (infants) will be added to the Business Class fare. A surcharge of USD 100 (adults), USD 75 (children) and USD 10 (infants) are added to the Economy fare.
    The surcharge will not apply to First Class RTW passengers. Business Class RTW passengers may travel in Economy Plus without surcharge. No refund will apply.
    SQ Business Plus surcharge on Boeing773ER services/A380 services (SQ operating and LH marketing flight numbers):
    Singapore – Hong Kong/Seoul: A surcharge of USD 300 will be added to the Business Class fare.
    Singapore – Melbourne/Sydney: A surcharge of USD 400 will be added to the Business Class fare.
    Singapore – Paris/Milan/Barcelona/Frankfurt/Zurich and Seoul – San Francisco: A surcharge of USD 500 will be added to the Business Class fare. Singapore – San Francisco: A surcharge of USD 600 will be added to the Business Class fare.
    The surcharge will not apply to First Class RTW passengers. Infants not occupying a seat – no charge. Infants occupying a seat – no discount.
  • Children between the ages of 2-11 years pay 75% and infants under 2 years not occupying a seat pay 10% of the applicable adult fare. If an infant turns 2 years during the journey, the children fare will be applied for the entire journey and a separate seat will be provided. Proof of age is required at time of ticketing. Children and infants must be accompanied on all sectors in the same cabin by a Star Alliance South Pacific Airpass adult passenger paying the full South Pacific Airpass fare.

Planning the route

  • Start and end of the journey must be in the same country, but not necessarily in the same city
  • The trip may be greater than Round the World travel as long as you do not go via the point of origin and still terminate in the country of origin.
  • Your Round the World trip must include only one transatlantic crossing and only one transpacific crossing. Only one crossing between Europe/Africa/Middle East and Asia is allowed. These intercontinental crossings may be surface sectors.
  • You need to include 3 to 15 stopovers in the normal RTW fare and 3 to 5 stopovers in the Special Economy RTW Fare.
    Both types of RTW fares allow a maximum of 1 stopover in any one city and no more than 3 stopovers in any one country (exception USA: max. 5 stopovers). A stopover is a stay of at least 24 hours
    For travel originating in USA/Canada: The number of stopovers taken in continental USA/Canada must not exceed 4 (not more than 3 per country) For travel originating in Europe: The number of stopovers taken in Europe must not exceed 5 (not more than 3 per country
  • Surface sectors are allowed at your own expense, but the mileage for surface sectors will be included into the mileage calculation. If a surface sector exceeds 24 hours, it is considered as one stopover
  • Transfers are allowed, but no more that 3 in any one city. In the country where the trips starts only 2 domestic transfers and only two international transfers are permitted
    Exception:
    When travel starts in USA/Canada/Thailand/Norway, not more than 4 domestic transfers and not more than 4 international transfers permitted in the country of origin
  • The maximum number of flight coupons is 16 per ticket. Surface sectors are counted as flight coupons.
  • Minimum stay: The travel on the last international sector (intercontinental sector, if travel started in Europe) must start no earlier than 10 days after the first international sector (intercontinental sector, if travel started in Europe) started.
    Minimum stay of 7 days is required for trips which start in Australia.
  • Maximum stay: The return travel from the last international stopover must start no later than 12 months after departure on first sector

The ticket

  • All destinations you wish to travel to must be stated at time of purchase before departure from country of origin.
    You must have booked your first international flight (first intercontinental flight if travel starts in Europe) and any preceding local flights and purchase your ticket at least 24h prior to first departure. All remaining flights may be left without confirmed flight numbers and dates and can be booked at any time prior to departure
    In Economy Class more restrictive Ticketing Time Limits apply:

    If reservations were made 30 days or more prior to departure, ticketing must be completed 21 days prior to departure.
    If reservations were made 29 – 8 days prior to departure, ticketing must be completed 7 days prior to departure.
    If reservations were made 7 days or less prior to departure, ticketing must be completed 24hours prior to departure.
  • If a ticket includes travel to/from/via Cuba, it may not be sold in the USA nor originate in USA nor include flights segments for travel on United or US Airways operated or marketed flights. The ticket cannot be sold to US citizens and cannot be issued on United or US Airways ticket stock. This reflects U.S. government restrictions.
  • When the trip starts in one country and the ticket is sold in another country, the fare will be that applicable from the country of origin converted to the currency of the country of sale at the bankers selling rate.
  • All applicable fees, taxes and surcharges will be added to the fare at the time of ticketing and are NOT included in the net fare displayed in the Round the World Mileage Calculator on www.staralliance.com
  • The ticket is not valid if the first coupon has not been used and will not be honoured if all the coupons are not used in the sequence provided in the ticket.

Change of plans

  • A charge may be payable for the services of rebooking, rerouting, cancellation and refunds. For detailed information, please contact your travel agent or the ticket office of a Star Alliance member airline.

Baggage

  • Baggage allowance: Two pieces of luggage are allowed. Most Star Alliance carriers allow 32 kg per piece in Business Class and 23 kg per piece in Economy Class

You will then receive a non-binding offer in accordance with all terms and conditions, stating the final rate including all applicable fees, taxes and surcharges.
  • Conditions of carriage and regulations: The carriage of passengers, baggage and cargo is subject to the conditions of carriage and conditions of the carriers concerned, copies of which may be requested from each Star Alliance member airline
