Round-the-World mileage calculator enhances Star Alliance website
Star Alliance, the airline network for Earth™, has enhanced the functionality of its website by installing a round-the-world mileage calculator. This tool allows customers to build their individual round-the-world itinerary, segment by segment. In addition to calculating the flown mileage, it also ensures that the route selected corresponds to the fare rules. Once the full trip has been planned, it can be transmitted via email or fax to a reservations office of one of the member carriers for booking and ticketing.
With a network of more than 14,000 daily flights, serving some 772 airports in 133 countries, the Star Alliance network offers the widest choice in creating a tailor-made round-the-world itinerary.
“The round-the-world mileage calculator now allows our customers to plan their itinerary from the comfort of their own home, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, further increasing the attractiveness of this fare product”, said Mark Davies, Star Alliance Director Marketing & Communications.
The Star Alliance round-the-world fares are available on all member carriers and are priced according to mileage flown and class of travel. The routing can cover a total distance of up to either 29,000, 34,000 or 39,000 miles and include a minimum of three and a maximum of 15 stopovers. The fare is available for travel in either First, Business or Economy Class. The duration of the trip must be at least ten days and must not exceed one year. Additionally, the Star Alliance network also offers a round-the-world special fare, which is only available for travel in Economy Class, has a maximum mileage of 26,000, must be purchased seven days prior to departure and permits three to five stopovers.
The Star Alliance network was established in 1997 as the first truly global airline alliance to offer customers global reach and a smooth travel experience. The members are Air Canada, Air New Zealand, ANA, Asiana Airlines, Austrian, bmi, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Spanair, Thai Airways International, United, US Airways and VARIG Brazilian Airlines. South African Airways and TAP Air Portugal are set to join in 2005.
