Star Alliance Regional Member Airline

Adria Airways

The Slovenian national airline Adria Airways has a wealth of experience spanning over 48 years in charter and scheduled air traffic. The Adria Airways story dates back to 1961, when it was founded as a charter company. In the eighties, the airline started serving scheduled routes, and became a member of the IATA, the International Air Transport Association.

Today the majority of Adria Airways business is in scheduled flights. Its network links Ljubljana with more than 25 cities throughout Europe and offers excellent connections to South East Europe. The company offers around 250 scheduled flights each week to Amsterdam, Athens, Brussels, Bucharest, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Istanbul, Kiev, London, Moscow, Munich, Paris, Podgorica, Pristina, Sarajevo, Skopje, Stockholm, Tirana, Warsaw, Vienna and Zurich. In the summer Adria Airways also operates flights to Barcelona, Madrid, Manchester, Dublin, and Ohrid. Flights from Vienna to Frankfurt have been operating since autumn 2001.

Adria Airways operates charter flights for the most part seasonally, and most frequently to destinations in the Mediterranean.

The company’s head office is in Ljubljana and has representative offices in Ljubljana Joze Pucnik Airport, Brussels, London, Paris, Moscow, Frankfurt, Munich, Zagreb, Zurich and Vienna, and sales agents in almost all European countries.

In 2006 for the first time since 1991 over a million passengers were carried and in November 2006 the e-ticket was launched.

Today Adria operates the flights with fifteen aircraft: three Airbus A320, four Canadair Regional Jet CRJ900, six Canadair Regional Jet CRJ200, one Canadair Regional Jet CRJ100 and one Boeing 737-500. This is one of the most modern fleets in Europe and is both environment-friendly and economical.

Two Canadair Regional Jet CRJ900 aircraft joined the fleet in May 2007. In November 2007 Adria Airways took a decision to acquire two CRJ900 NextGen and a CRJ1000 NextGen aircraft. Two Canadair Regional Jet CRJ900 NextGen joined the fleet in December 2008 and in January 2009.

As a long-term partner of major European airlines, particularly of Lufthansa, in December 2004 Adria was accepted as a regional partner into the strongest strategic airline grouping, Star Alliance, demonstrating reliability and high-quality. In this way, the company has also clearly set out its business model as a network carrier offering global services.

Adria Airways received a European Union JAR 145 certificate and has also been providing maintenance and service work for other airlines at its hangars. Aircraft manufacturer Bombardier Aerospace Canada selected Adria for its Heavy Maintenance Facility for Canadair Regional Jet aircraft because of its expertise and extensive experience. Since 2005 Adria Airways also performs maintenance work on the Airbus A320 family. Since 2002 Adria Airways performed maintenance work on approximately 540 foreign aircraft.

In August 2004 Adria was one of the first airlines to receive IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) Registration (www.iata.org/registry), which determines the level of organisation of the company, its operating procedures and also the flight safety and security of the company.

Adria Airways embodies many features characteristic of Slovenia: hospitality, friendliness and high-quality services. Our goal is to remain a dependable and successful European regional carrier well into the future, during which we continue to grow and develop. Together with a professional, caring staff and a modern fleet, Adria is committed to providing a high level of service and satisfaction, and to winning the loyalty of its passengers.
