Star Alliance North America Airpass – Terms and Conditions

• The Star Alliance North America Airpass is designed for Economy class trips through North America via the services of Air Canada (AC), Continental Airlines (CO), United (UA) and US Airways (US).
• Within North America, the ticket is valid in the following countries: mainland US and Hawaii, Canada and Mexico, mainland US or Hawaii. Travel between the US/Canada and Hawaii is available at extra cost. Travel to and from Cuba is not permitted.
• The Airpass is available in conjunction with International Round Trips or Star Alliance Round the World Fares to, from and via North America and those flights must be scheduled services in First/Business or Economy class of a Star Alliance member airline.
• The Airpass is available to residents of countries other than Canada, the US, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Bermuda or any Caribbean country in connection with international travel to, from or via North America.
• One Star Alliance North America Airpass can be purchased per international Return, Round the World, Circle Trip or Single Open Jaw ticket to, from or via Canada, Mexico or the US. Proof of residency must be presented upon request.
• The Star Alliance North America Airpass consists of 3 to 10 flight coupons.
• The total airfare is determined by the number of coupons plus applicable fees, taxes and surcharges.
• There are no discounts for children older than two years of age. Infants under the age of two not occupying a seat are permitted at no charge. Only one infant not occupying a seat is allowed per adult passenger. If the infant turns two during the journey then they may not travel as an infant and instead must occupy a seat priced at the adult fare for the entire journey. Unaccompanied children and infants are not permitted.
• The Star Alliance North America Airpass can be bought in combination with international Star Alliance redemption programme tickets.
• All flights of the Star Alliance North America Airpass will accrue miles to the passenger’s Star Alliance Frequent Flyer Programme.

 

Planning the route

• There is no minimum stay required for your trip. It may last up to three months from the start of your travel on the first Airpass coupon to the end of your travel on the last Airpass coupon.
• Two stopovers are required and are limited to one per city. They are permitted at any point served by Air Canada (AC), Continental Airlines (CO), United (UA) and US Airways (US) within North America. A stopover is defined as a stay of at least 24 hours.
• Surface sectors in between are allowed at your own expense. If such a break in your itinerary exceeds 24 hours it is considered as one stopover. Any point may be transited additional times for the purpose of making transfer connections requiring less than 24 hours.
• Reservations for the first domestic flight of the North America Airpass must be made before you arrive in the mainland US, Hawaii, Canada or Mexico. Reservations for flights other than the first flight on the Airpass must be made at least 24 hours before the departure of each flight.
As long as the routing is not changed, reservations may be changed up to two hours before departure. Rerouting, respectively rebooking, via the services of Air Canada (AC), Continental Airlines (CO), United (UA) and US Airways (US), only.

The ticket

• The Star Alliance North America Airpass must be issued outside of the US, Canada or Mexico.
• You can purchase your Star Alliance North America Airpass at your local travel agent or at any Star Alliance member airline reservation centre outside North America. You may use the online Star Alliance North America Airpass Calculator to plan your trip and to email your itinerary directly from the tool to your preferred Star Alliance airline offering this service for availability check, fare calculation and reservation.
• At the time of ticket purchase you must present a proof of permanent residence and your intercontinental ticket.
• The Star Alliance North America Airpass has to be issued separately from your intercontinental ticket.

Change of plans

• Voluntary rebooking/rerouting is permitted via United, Air Canada, Continental Airlines, and US Airways services only.
• A USD 100 service charge will be assessed each time the ticket is reissued, revalidated or cancelled.
Exception: No service charge will be assessed in the event of death/illness of the passenger or immediate family (spouse, children, parents, brothers and sisters).

Cancellation and refunds

• Before departure, if a ticket is totally unused, it will be refunded less a cancellation charge of USD 100 per person. This rule applies to adults, children and infants.
• After departure, if any portion of the Airpass ticket has been used, no refund will be made

Baggage

• Baggage allowance: two pieces at 23 kg each per person.
• For excess baggage charges, please contact the respective Star Alliance member airline.

The carriage of passengers, baggage and cargo is subject to the conditions of carriage of the carriers concerned, copies of which may be requested from each Star Alliance member airline.
• Please create the itinerary of your trip by using the Star Alliance and send it straight from the tool to your preferred Star Alliance airline offering this service. You will then receive a non-binding offer in accordance with all terms and conditions, stating the final rate including all applicable fees, taxes and surcharges.
