Star Alliance Africa Airpass – Terms and Conditions
- The Star Alliance Africa Airpass is designed for Economy class travel on services of Ethiopian Airlines (ET), South African Airways (SA), Brussels Airlines (SN) and EGYPTAIR (MS) in continental Africa, including the Indian Ocean Islands, but excluding the Cape Verde Islands.
- The Star Alliance Africa Airpass can only be bought in connection with any Star Alliance international/intercontinental First/Business and Economy Class ticket, issued outside of Africa for travel in both directions to/from Africa. You can purchase only one Star Alliance Africa Airpass per international/intercontinental journey.
- This Airpass is only available to residents of countries outside of Africa.
- The Star Alliance Africa Airpass consists of 3 to 10 flight coupons.
- The total airfare is determined by the number of coupons. Applicable taxes, fees, charges or surcharges will be added. The fares will be converted into the local currency when the ticket is issued.
- Children between the ages of 2-11 years pay 75% and infants under 2 years not occupying a seat pay 10% of the applicable adult fare. If an infant turns 2 years during the journey, the children fare will be applied for the entire journey and a separate seat will be provided. Proof of age is required at time of ticketing. Children and infants must be accompanied on all sectors in the same cabin by a Star Alliance Africa Airpass adult passenger paying the full Africa Airpass fare. Unaccompanied children or infants are not accepted.
- The Star Alliance Africa Airpass can be bought in combination with international Star Alliance redemption programme tickets to and from Africa, starting outside of Africa.
- All flights of the Star Alliance Africa Airpass will accrue miles to the passengers nominated Star Alliance Frequent Flyer Programme, depending on the rules of your chosen Frequent Flyer Programme.
- The carriers have the right to exclude single flights from the Star Alliance Africa Airpass. Furthermore they can limit the number of passengers travelling with a Star Alliance Africa Airpass on any given flight.
Planning the route
- There is no minimum stay required for your trip. Your trip may last up to 3 months from the beginning of your travel on the first Airpass coupon to completion of travel on the last Airpass coupon, but may not exceed the validity of your international/intercontinental ticket.
- Two stopovers are required. They are permitted at any point served by the carriers within Africa. A stopover is a stay of more than 24 hours. Any point may be transited additional times for the purpose of making transfer connections requiring less than 24 hours.
- Transfers are only permitted for connecting purposes when no direct flight is offered.
- Changing flights at a transfer/connecting point requires an additional coupon.
- Individual sectors may not be travelled more than once in each direction.
- Surface sectors in-between are allowed at your own expense. If such break in itinerary exceeds 24 hours it is considered as one stopover.
Advance Reservations
- Reservation on the first Star Alliance Africa Airpass segment must be made before your departure on the first segment and latest at ticketing.
Your ticket
- The Star Alliance Africa Airpass may be issued worldwide. You can purchase your Star Alliance Africa Airpass at your local travel agent or at any Star Alliance member airline reservation center. You may alternatively use the online Star Alliance Africa Airpass Calculator to plan your desired trip and email your itinerary directly from the tool to your preferred Star Alliance airline offering this service for availability check, fare calculation and reservation.
- At the time of ticket purchase you must present a proof of permanent residence and your international ticket.
- The Star Alliance Africa Airpass has to be issued separately from your international ticket.
Change of plans
- You may rebook or reroute your trip if there are no changes of your point of origin, stopovers, destinations or booking classes provided that applicable booking class is available. In this case the Airpass ticket will be reissued free of charge. In case the new itinerary results in changes of your point of origin, stopovers, destinations or booking classes, a reissue charge of USD 50 plus the difference - if any – to the recalculated fee needs to be collected.
- The fee for change of routing is nonrefundable.
Cancellation & Refunds
- In case of cancellations before your departure and after ticketing, you will be charged USD 75. Discounts for children and infants will not apply.
- In case of cancellations after departure: The Refund will be the difference between the fare paid and the applicable normal fare for transportation used minus USD 75 cancellation charge.
Baggage
- The Baggage Allowance is the same as for the international/intercontinental ticket that the Airpass is connected to. In case of a multi-airline ticket, the more restrictive rules shall apply.

- Conditions of carriage and regulations:
The carriage of passengers, baggage and cargo is subject to the conditions of carriage of the carriers concerned, copies of which may be requested from each Star Alliance member airline.

You will then receive a non-binding offer in accordance with all terms and conditions, stating the final rate including all applicable fees, taxes and surcharges.
