Star Alliance Circle Asia Fare – Terms and Conditions
- The Star Alliance Circle Asia fares apply for circle trip journeys to, from and via
-North Asia: Japan, Hong Kong SAR, Taiwan, China, Republic of Korea
-South East Asia: Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Brunei,
Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos
-South West Pacific: Australia and New Zealand.
- The Airfare is valid on flights on Air China (CA), Ethiopian Airlines (ET), Lufthansa (LH), ANA (NH), Air New Zealand (NZ), Asiana Airlines (OZ), Singapore Airlines (SQ), THAI (TG) and United (UA), Turkish Airlines (TK)
- The applicable fare is determined - by the number of miles of your planned trip: up to 15,000 miles or up to 18,000 miles, - by the class of travel: Economy, Business or First Class, - by origin/destination of the trip. Applicable taxes, fees and surcharges will be added. Certain exceptions may apply.
- A child discount is not available on First and Business Class Fares.
Economy Class Fare discount:
Children (2-11years) are charged 75% of the adult fare plus applicable fees, taxes and surcharges. A proof of age is required.
The first infant under 2 years of age, not occupying a seat, pays 10% of the applicable adult fare plus respective fees, taxes and surcharges. Only one infant not occupying a seat is allowed per adult passenger. Proof of age is required at time of ticketing. Infants occupying a seat are charged the applicable child fare plus applicable fees, taxes and surcharges. If an infant turns 2 during the trip, the children discount (75% of adult fare) applies for entire journey and a separate seat will be provided.
Children or infants must be accompanied on all sectors in the same cabin by a Star Alliance Circle Asia Fare adult passenger paying the full Star Alliance Circle Asia Fare.
Unaccompanied children or infants are not accepted.
- Star Alliance Circle Asia Fares are available in First, Business and Economy Class. If on a certain flight First or Business Class is not offered or available, you will be accommodated in the lower class without refund.
- The fares are available all year. There are no seasons and blackout dates.
- Fares apply on following carriers: Air China (CA), Ethiopian Airlines (ET), Lufthansa (LH), ANA (NH), Air New Zealand (NZ), Asiana Airlines (OZ), Singapore Airlines (SQ), THAI (TG) and United (UA) and Turkish Airlines (TK). Carriers have the right to exclude single flights from the Star Alliance Circle Asia Fares. Furthermore they can limit the number of passengers travelling with a Star Alliance Circle Asia Fares on any given flight.
- All flights of the Star Alliance Circle Asia Fare will accrue miles to the passengers nominated Star Alliance Frequent Flyer Programme, depending on the rules of your chosen Frequent Flyer Programme.
The following surcharges do apply:
Air New Zealand’s Pacific Premium Economy Class is available for passengers with Economy Class Circle Asia Fare ticket for a surcharge of USD 400.00 for every sector in booking class O
Air New Zealand’s D Class is available for passengers with Business Class Circle Asia Fare ticket where Z Class is not available for a surcharge of USD 550.00 per sector. No surcharge applies for passengers paying the First Class Fare.
Singapore Airlines Business Class surcharge is applicable for passengers booked in a reduced Business Class (D Class) on Airbus A380, Boeing B773ER or Airbus A340-500 and will be levied on Business Class Circle Asia passengers travelling on Singapore Airlines Boeing B773ER, Airbus A380 or Airbus A345.

Planning the route
- The journey must include travel to all three areas:
South East Asia: Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Brunei, Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos
North Asia: China, Hong Kong SAR, Taiwan, Japan, Republic of Korea
South West Pacific: Australia, New Zealand
- Travel must begin and end in the same country, but not necessarily in the same city. Travel via the point of origin is not permitted.
- The maximum number of flight coupons is 16 per ticket. Surface sectors are counted as flight coupon
- Depending on your routing the maximum allowed mileage of the Circle Asia Fare is either 15,000 or 18,000 miles.
- Travel via the point of origin is not permitted.
- The Circle Asia Fare requires a minimum of 2 stopovers, a maximum of 15 stopovers is allowed. A stopover is a stay of over 24 hours. A minimum of 1 stopover is required per area, except for the area of origin. Only one stopover is permitted in the same city. Only 3 stopovers are permitted within Japan.
- Surface sectors in-between are allowed at your own expense. If such an intermediate surface sector in itinerary exceeds 24 hours it is considered as one stopover. The mileage for surface sectors has to be included in the maximum permitted mileage calculation. Surface sectors between cities and surface sectors between airports in multiple airport cities require a separate flight coupon. The fist crossing between the areas or the first international sector may not be a surface sector and might not be left open.
- Only 1 international departure and 1 international arrival are permitted in the country where the trip started. No more than 3 transfers are permitted at any one city:
Exceptions:
For travel starting in Japan/New Zealand/China, only 2 transfers are permitted in Japan/New Zealand/China between domestic flights.
- Minimum stay: The travel on the last international sector must start no earlier than 3 days after the first international flight started. Exception: For travel originating in Australia and New Zealand no minimum stay is required for First and Business Class Fares.
- Maximum stay: The return travel from the last international stopover must start no later than 6 months after departure.
The ticket
- The Circle Asia Fare only applies if it is purchased before your departure. Your reservations up to and including the first international sector and the purchase of the ticket have to be done no less than 7 days prior to your first departure for Business and First class, unless you start your journey in Australia or New Zealand where no pre-purchase restriction applies. Subsequent sectors can be booked at any time.
- Double open Jaws/Round trips are not permitted.
- One of each of Star Alliance Asia, China, Japan, Thailand, or South Pacific Airpass may be issued on a separate ticket in conjunction with a Star Alliance Circle Asia ticket.
- The ticket is not valid if the first coupon has not been used. It will not be honored if the coupons are not used in the sequence provided on the ticket.
Change of plans
- As long as the routing is not changed, reservations not concerning up to and including the first international sector may even be changed at any time ( subject to certain restrictions)
- After ticketing rerouting permitted at charge of USD 75 per transaction. If the new routing results in miles greater than original Maximum Permitted Miles, ticket may be upgraded to a higher Star Alliance Circle Asia fare upon payment of the difference.
- No refund applies if the total mileage of a rerouted itinerary would qualify for a lower fare than the fare paid.
- Please note that the fare, taxes and surcharges are only valid as of the day a ticket is purchased and are subject to recalculation in case of any changes to the itinerary requested by the customer. Additional fees may be levied by an airline or travel agent fulfilling such voluntary changes to a ticketed itinerary.
- Exception: In the event of death of the passenger, members of the passenger’s immediate family or accompanying passengers may reroute the remainder of the journey without charge. Relevant documents will be required.

Cancellation & Refunds
- Before departure:
- Before ticketing deadline: If a ticket is totally unused, it will be refunded.
- After ticketing deadline: 10 percent of the fare paid will be charged for cancel/no-show/refund. Waived for death of passenger, family member or accompanying passengers as evidenced by a certificate.
- After departure (applicable to all countries):
- refund if any will be the difference between the fare paid and the applicable fare for the journey travelled
- no refund applies when downgrading from a higher CASTAR fare to a lower CASTAR fare
- Credit towards further transaction:
- Tickets may be upgraded to a higher CASTAR fare upon payment of the difference in fare, recalculated from the point of origin plus a rerouting charge.
Baggage
- For Circle Asia Fares, the piece concept will apply for the entire journey. In economy class you may allow for one (1) piece of baggage at the weight of 20kg, business class travel allows for two (2) pieces at a combined weight of 30kg and first class two (2) pieces at a combined weight of 40kg may be checked free of charge for the whole itinerary.
- In some instances individual carriers may apply a higher free baggage allowance. Please refer to individual carriers for potential baggage charges and more information should you require additional allowance.
