Star Alliance Fare & Discount Products - the most important rules and conditions

The Star Alliance network continues to develop new products and services that make global travel easier and more flexible. The Fare & Discount Products consist of the Round the World (RTW) Fare, Airpasses and Circle Fares. All Star Alliance Fare & Discount Products are filed in the Global Distribution Systems (GDS).

For Star Alliance Round the World Fares use Fare Quote Display:

For Star Alliance Circle Asia Fares use Fare Quote Display:

Star Alliance Round the World (RTW) Fares

• Check Airlines
  Participating airlines are all Star Alliance member carriers:
  AC/BD/CA/FM/JK/JP/KF/LH/LO/LX/MS/NH/NZ/OS/OU/OZ/SA/SK(BU)/SQ/TG/TK/TP/UA/US
• Check Flight Numbers
  RTW fares in general do apply on all Star Alliance flight numbers with certain exceptions. Please check RTW rules in GDS.
• Check Booking Classes
  Booking classes in general are:
  YRWSPCL: H
  YRWSTAR1/2/3: M
  CRWSTAR1/2/3: D
  FRWSTAR1/2/3: A
  Certain exceptions from the rule may apply. Please check RTW rules in GDS.
• Check MinimumStay
  10 days between first and last international/intercontinental sector.
• Check Maximum Stay
  12 months after departure on first sector.
• Check Routing
  At least 1 transatlantic and 1 transpacific flight is required, but also only one of each is allowed. No more than one crossing between TC 2 and TC 3 is permitted.
  Backtracking within TC 1, within TC 2 and within TC 3 is allowed.
  => Some flights using the polar route are to be considered as transpacific flights. For details please check RTW rules in GDS.
• Check Transfers
  Certain restrictions apply in country of origin. For details please check RTW rules in GDS.
• Check Stopover
  YRWSPCL: minimum 3 stopover / maximum 5 stopover.
  YRWSTAR1,2,3/CRWSTAR1,2,3/FRWSTAR1,2,3: minimum 3 stopover / maximum 15 stopover.
  => both ends of a surface sector together count as one stopover.
  => maximum of one stopover permitted in any one city.
  Stopover are counted towards the transfer limit ("stopover eats transfer rule")
• Check Mileage
  YRWSPCL: maximum 26'000 miles permitted
  Y/C/FRWSTAR1: maximum 29'000 miles permitted
  Y/C/FRWSTAR2: maximum 34'000 miles permitted
  Y/C/FRWSTAR3: maximum 39'000 miles permitted
  => surface sectors must be included in mileage calculation. In that case the shortest existing TPM or the sum of segment TPMs of the shortest connection between both ends of the surface sector applies.
• Check Fare/Fare Basis/Taxes
  Fare: refer to your GDS,
  Farebasis: YRWSPCL / YRWSTAR1, 2 or 3 / CRWSTAR1, 2 or 3 / FRWSTAR1, 2 or 3.
  Child: fare basis plus CH // Infant: fare basis plus IN.
  Fees, taxes and surcharges: must be calculated separately as they apply on the individual legs. On certain flights for special product segment surcharges may apply. For details please check RTW rules in GDS.
• Check Endorsement/Baggage
  Endorsement:VLD STAR ALLIANCE ONLY/NONREF.
  Baggage: Piece concept applies for entire journey (2 pieces of luggage per person).
  While most carriers apply 32kg per piece for Business and First Class, most Star Alliance carriers allow 23kg per piece in Economy class.
