TAM Airlines aircraft

Established in 1976 by Captain Rolim Adolfo Amaro, with the commitment to delight the customer with high-quality services, TAM has been leader in the Brazilian market aviation since 2003. Today, the company has over 24,000 employees and, during 2009, carried 30.4 million passengers, both in domestic and international flights. The mottos “Passion for Flying” and “Command at Service”, inspired in the “Spirit to Serve” established by Captain Rolim, are part of the essence of the company and guide its initiatives.

TAM’s policy is to keep a young fleet, with a low average age.

Through TAM Airlines (formerly TAM Mercosur), a subsidiary in Paraguay, TAM offers flights from Asunción to destinations in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile and Paraguay.

The other business units of the company are TAM Viagens (Brazilian second largest tourism operator), which offers more than 600 tourist packages and serves about 5,000 travel agencies throughout the country, and TAM Cargo, which uses the available space in the cargo compartment of TAM’s own aircrafts to carry express goods and both conventional and special cargos, serving various locations in Brazil and abroad.

TAM established in 1993 the first frequent flyer programme in Brazil, TAM Fidelidade. Since its creation, TAM Fidelidade has distributed more than 9.7 million tickets through the redemption of accrued points, and has now 6.6 million members.

In 2009, TAM launched Multiplus Fidelidade, to develop loyalty programme networks. Through Multiplus, consumers may accumulate points from different loyalty programmes in one single account and, in addition, redeem points and exchange them for prizes in several different types of company. In February of 2010, Multiplus has done its Initial Public Offering (IPO).

TAM was the first Brazilian airline to get an IOSA certification (International Operational Safety Audit) granted by IATA (International Air Transport Association) — in 2010, the certification was revalidated for the second time. Besides that, TAM’s Technological Centre, the MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) unit, located in the city of São Carlos (SP), has been certified by Brazilian, American, European and several Latin-American aeronautical authorities to perform maintenance operations, both in its own fleet and on third party aircraft.

TAM maintains, in São Carlos, the largest museum of aviation of Latin America. The idea of starting a collection of historic aircrafts was of late Captain Rolim Amaro and his brother, João Amaro, who is the president of the Museum. The brothers Amaro shared the same passion for flying and, creating the Museum, they gave to Brazil its most important cultural reference in the aviation sector. After a complete process of reformulation, the Museum will reopen in June 13th, 2010, with a permanent exhibition of 96 aircrafts.
